Two Player Pinehurst (aka Chapman)

  • Handicap: 60% of lowest player index plus 40% of highest player index.

The third shot will be made by the player whose second shot was NOT chosen. The partners will alternate hitting that selected ball until the hole is completed.

  • A team is penalized 2 strokes if a player hits out of turn with the third shot and all subsequent shots. The order of play is not changed if a player incurs a penalty. Play must return to the proper order which means the person who hit out of order also plays the next shot

  • Record the team’s GROSS score for each hole.

  • The net score is determined by subtracting the team’s allowed handicap from the total gross score.

Horse Race

  • Five-hole horse race beginning on hole #1

  • The team with the lowest combined course handicap plays scratch. All other team handicaps are calculated as: (team combined course handicap - the course handicap of the team with the lowest handicap) x 40%. Strokes applied as they fall on the card.

  • All scoring is on a net basis and all local course rules apply.

  • Two-person teams, alternating shots, playing the same ball.  Balls must be marked with a designated team number.  Alternating shots continue from hole to hole.  If a chip-off (see below) is required to break a tie, the chip-off shot is considered a shot in the alternating shot order.

  • Putting will not commence until all teams have reached the green.  Putting order on the first four holes will be “inside out” (closest to the hole will putt first).  On the fifth hole, putting order will be “outside in.”

  • Approximately 20% of the total number of teams will be eliminated after each hole (Note: the actual number of teams eliminated each hole will be predetermined before the competition, based on the number of teams entered in the horse race).

  • Team elimination is based on the worst net scores per hole.

  • Ties are broken each hole (and on the final hole) using a “chip-off” with closest-to-the-hole as the metric.  Chip-off locations are determined by the Pro, and chip-off participants are not allowed to watch competing chips.

  • Winner is the last team standing.
